Language interface packs let you change the display language for Office Excel, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word, as well as use a spellcheck dictionary and some proofing tools in the LIP language. You can download the language interface pack software from the Office Language Interface Pack (LIP) downloads page.
If you are not sure if you must have a language interface pack or a language pack see the Determine if you need a language pack or language interface pack article. If you don't see the language that you are looking for, it might be available as a language pack. If a language is available in a language pack, it is not available as a language interface pack.

When do I need a language interface pack?
If you need to change the user interface (UI) language in Excel, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint or Word, or use the proofing tools for a LIP language, you need to download a LIP. For information about how to change the Office 2010 display language, see Set the editing, display, or Help language preferences.
Important You must install the LIP version that matches your version of Office. For example, if you are using Office 2010, you must install the Office 2010 LIP. The 2007 version of a language interface pack does not work with the Office 2010 programs.
For example, if you have the Spanish primary language version of Office 2010 installed and you want to see the UI and be able to edit documents in Catalan, you can download and install the Catalan LIP, then change your UI to Catalan.
For a list of the localized language versions of Office and the companion languages included with each language, see Office 2010 suites: localized versions. For a list of available Language packs for Office 2010, see Office Language Packs.

How is a language interface pack different than a language pack?
Language interface packs provide a set of tools in a number of languages for five Office 2010 programs: Excel, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word. They do not contain Help/User Assistance as part of the download package, but some help files can be downloaded separately for some languages from the download site. The LIPs can be downloaded for free from Office Language Interface Pack (LIP) downloads.
Language packs contain localized user interface text for most Office 2010 programs: Access, Excel, InfoPath, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project, Publisher, SharePoint Workspace, Visio, and Word. They also have more proofing tools than LIPs, such as grammar checkers. Language packs can be purchased from Office Language Packs.
Below is a list of planned Office 2010 language interface packs, and the features available in that language. For a listing of which LIPs have been released, see Office Language Interface Pack (LIP) downloads.
