You have arrived at this page because your installation of Microsoft Office 2003 was not detected by the Microsoft Office Online Web site. Your installation of Microsoft Office 2003 might not have been detected for several reasons.
You have not enabled an ActiveX control
- For your installation to be detected, you need to enable the ActiveX control. In addition to detection, the ActiveX control allows you to download and open selected media clips, templates, and training practice files automatically, in the correct file format and location.
To enable the ActiveX control:
- You need Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.01 or later. The Office Online site uses an ActiveX control that works with Internet Explorer.
- The Internet zone settings on your computer must be set to Medium, or if your Internet settings are set to High, the Microsoft Office Online Web site must be listed as a trusted site on your computer.
Adding a Web site as a trusted site can have security implications. For more information, you can read about URL Security Zones.
To add Microsoft Office Online to your list of trusted sites
- On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options, and then click the Security tab.
- Click the Trusted Sites icon, and then click Sites.
- Clear the Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone check box.
- In the Add this Web site to the zone box, type http://office.microsoft.com, and then click Add.
- Click OK twice.
Note Make sure Active Scripting is enabled. In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options. On the Security tab, click Custom Level. Scroll down to Scripting and make sure Active scripting is enabled.
Your Active X control may be blocked
You might have been sent to this page because your Active X control has been blocked by Internet Explorer.
To enable the Active X control
- On the Tools Options menu in Internet Explorer click Manage Add-ons.
- Select Office Online and then select Enable.
This will allow you to see Office 2003 content.
Using a browser that is not ActiveX enabled
Only Internet Explorer is ActiveX-enabled. Netscape Navigator version 6.0 and later, however, has an add-in that gives it the ability to work like an ActiveX control. If you are using another browser but want to take advantage of all the features of Office Online, you either need to use Internet Explorer as your browser or download Netscape 6.0 or later.
If you installed Office 2003 before you installed Netscape 6.0 or later, Office Online still may not detect your installation. In this case, you should run Reinstall or Repair on Office 2003. From the Start menu, point to Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs, click Microsoft Office 2003 Edition, and then click Change. You can then select Reinstall or Repair.
