When Communicator cannot determine a contact's presence status, the contact's status is displayed as Status Unavailable. A contact's status may be unavailable for any of the following reasons:

• The contact's address has been incorrectly entered. In most companies, the address used for IM is the same as the contact's e-mail address. Check with your contact to be sure that you are using the correct address for IM.
• The network is unavailable or is experiencing problems.
• The user does not exist.
• The user is in a different organization or on a public IM network (MSN, AOL or Yahoo!), and you have not added this user to your Contactslist.
