What is presence?

In Communicator Mobile, presence is the ability of a person or device to communicate with others and to display levels of availability. Presence awareness, a closely related concept, is the knowledge of the person or device’s presence. If you can see a person’s level of availability, you can instantly know whether or not that person is available to take your call.

Communicator Mobile displays presence status using status flags, such as “Online,” “Busy” or “Away”. If your colleague is using Communicator, Communicator Mobile, or another compatible instant messaging program, you can know both presence and availability for that person. Your colleague can use Communicator to change his or her status flag and convey a preferred method of communication. When you see the status flag change to “Online,” you know you can then reach your colleague instantly.
