The Instant Messages tab controls the appearance of instant messages that you send and receive in Office Communicator.
Instant message settings
Change the font of my instant messages
Displays the font family, color, and point size applied to messages that you type during an IM conversation. The point size applies only to what you see in your Conversation window, but the other settings define how your message appears to all participants. If you choose a font family that another participant's computer does not have, Communicator will display your message using a similar one.
Show emoticons in instant messages
Select this check box to display emoticons in your Conversation window as graphics. Clear it if you want emoticons to appear only as typewritten characters. If you clear this check box and you select emoticons from the library, they will appear in your conversation as typewritten characters. This setting applies only to your window; it does not affect how emoticons appear in the Conversation window of other participants.
Add time stamp to instant messages
Select this check box to add a time stamp to each message that you send during a conversation. Clear it if you do not want the time that each message is sent to be recorded.
