Alerts

Use the Alerts tab to configure status and conversation alerts and to control sounds that accompany alerts and other events in Communicator.

Status alerts

Display status alerts for the following contacts

Select this check box if you want to view status alerts from some or all of your contacts. Clear it if you do not ever want to view alerts from your contacts. A status alert notifies you when a contact's presence status has changed to Online.

If you check this box, you can determine which contacts you receive status alerts from and under what conditions you receive alerts.

Tagged contacts only

Click to view status alerts only from contacts that you have tagged. When you tag a contact, you will receive an alert when the contact's presence status changes to Online.

All contacts

Click to view alerts from all contacts on your Contacts list.

Suspend alerts when my status is Busy

Select this check box if you do not want to receive status alerts when your presence status is set to Busy. Clear it if you want to receive status alerts anyway.

Suspend alerts when my status is Do Not Disturb

Select this check box if you do not want to receive status alerts when your presence status is set to Do Not Disturb. Clear it if you want to receive status alerts anyway. By default, your status is set to Do Not Disturb whenever you are running a full-screen program.

Incoming conversation alerts

Display alerts for incoming conversations

Select this check box if you want to receive an alert when somebody is trying to start an IM conversation with you. Clear it if you do not want to receive such alerts.

Suspend alerts when my status is Do Not Disturb

Select this check box if you do not want to receive incoming conversation alerts when your presence status is set to Do Not Disturb. Clear it if you want to receive incoming conversation alerts anyway. By default, your status is set to Do Not Disturb whenever you are running a full-screen program.

Display message text in incoming instant message alerts

Select this check box if you want the incoming conversation alert to include the text of the sender's initial instant message. Clear it if you want the alert to display only the sender's name.

Sounds

Provide feedback with sound

Select this check box if you want events in Office Communicator to be accompanied by sound. Clear it if you do not.

Suspend sounds when my status is Busy

Select this check box if you do not want to be interrupted by sounds when your presence status is set to Busy. Clear it if you want to receive sounds anyway.

Suspend sounds when my status is Do Not Disturb

Select this check box if you do not want to be interrupted by sounds when your presence status is set to Do Not Disturb. Clear it if you want to receive sounds anyway. By default, your status is set to Do Not Disturb whenever you are running a full-screen program.

Configure Sounds

Click to set associate specific sounds with specific events and to configur other audio settings. To associate specific sounds with specific events, on the Sounds tab, in the Program events area, scroll down to Microsoft Office Communicator 2005. Click the event that you want to associate a sound with, and then click Browse. Locate the sound file that you want to play for this event, and then click OK.
