Accept, Decline, and Respond to Instant Message Invitations

When someone sends you an instant message, you see an instant message invitation alert in the bottom-right corner of your computer screen. The left side of the alert provides information about the sender and the message. The right side of the alert provides buttons you can click to respond to the invitation. For example, from an instant message invitation alert, you can accept the invitation, decline the invitation, respond with an audio call, and set your status to Do Not Disturb.

Accept an instant message invitation

When someone sends you an an instant message invitation, you receive an alert that appears briefly in the lower-right corner of your PC screen. If you miss the alert, you can accept the invitation later by clicking the blinking message task in the Windows task bar.

  1. To accept an instant message invitation, click anywhere in the left side of the invitation alert.
  2. In the Conversation window, type your response in the message Entry area and then press ENTER.

Respond to an instant message invitation with a voice call

  • When you receive an instant message invitation alert, you can click the Call contact button in the invitation and then select a calling option.

Decline an instant message invitation

  • When you receive an instant message invitation alert, click the Close button in the alert to silently decline the invitation and close the invitation.

Set your status to Do Not Disturb from an instant message invitation

  • In the instant message invitation alert, click Set Status to Do Not Disturb. The text in the Set Status to Do Not Disturb pop-up window indicates when the Do Not Disturb state expires.
