Allow Users Remote Access to Live Communications Servers
 

If you want to allow remote users to access your internal Live Communications Servers, you must first configure your Access Proxy and enable remote user access in your forest. You can perform this task using either the Live Communications Server 2005 administrative snap-in or Active Directory Users and Computers.

To configure a user or group of users for remote access

ShowUsing Active Directory Users and Computers

  1. ShowStart Active Directory Users and Computers.

    • Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Active Directory Users and Computers.
  2. Go to the folder where your users reside.
  3. Select one of the following:
    • ShowTo configure a subset of users or an individual user in a folder for remote access

      1. Expand the Users folder or the folder where your users reside.
      2. Select the user or users you want to configure for remote access, right-click these users, and then click Configure Live Communications Users.
      3. On the Welcome to the Configure Users Wizard page, click Next.
      4. On the Configure User Settings page, click the Configure Users for Remote Access check box, and then click Allow Users.
      5. On the Configure Operation Status page, if you want to export the log, click Export to save the XML file, and then click Finish.
    • ShowTo configure an individual user for remote access

      1. Expand the Users folder or the folder where your users reside.
      2. Right-click the user, and then click Properties.
      3. On the Live Communications tab, click Advanced Settings.
      4. Click the Enable remote user access check box.
      5. Click OK twice.

ShowUsing the Live Communications Server administrative snap-in

  1. ShowStart Live Communications Server administrative snap-in.

    • Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Live Communications Server 2005.
  2. In the console tree, expand the forest node.
  3. Expand subsequent nodes under the Domains node until you reach the domain that the server or pool resides in.
  4. Expand the Live Communications servers and pools node.
  5. Expand the server or pool.
  6. Select one of the following:
    • ShowTo configure all users on a server or pool for remote access

      1. Right-click the Users folder, and then click Configure users.
      2. On the Welcome to the Configure Users Wizard page, click Next.
      3. On the Configure User Settings page, click the Configure Users for Remote Access check box, and then click Allow Users.
      4. On the Configure Operation Status page, if you want to export the log, click Export to save the XML file, and then click Finish.
    • ShowTo configure a selected user or group of users on a server or pool for remote access

      1. Click the Users folder.
      2. In the details pane, select the users you want to configure for remote access, and then click Configure users.
      3. On the Welcome to the Configure Users Wizard page, click Next.
      4. On the Configure User Settings page, click the Configure Users for Remote Access check box, and then click Allow Users.
      5. On the Configure Operation Status page, if you want to export the log, click Export to save the XML file, and then click Finish.
    • ShowTo configure an individual user for remote access

      1. Click the Users folder.
      2. In the details pane, right-click the user configure for remote access, and then click Properties.
      3. On the Live Communications tab, click Advanced Settings.
      4. Click the Enable remote user access check box.
      5. Click OK twice.

 Note   To perform this task, you must be a member of the RTCDomainUserAdmins group.
