Office Communications Server 2007 is offered in two server editions: Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition.

  • Office Communications Server 2007 Standard Edition
    Standard Edition requires that primary server components, as well as the database for storing user and conference information, be configured on a single computer. Standard Edition is recommended for organizations that do not require higher availability through clustering.
  • Office Communications Server 2007 Enterprise Edition
    Enterprise Edition enables separation of server functionality and data storage to achieve higher capacity and availability. Enterprise Edition is recommended for organizations that that require higher availability through clustering.

Office Communications Server 2007 Client Access licenses

Office Communications Server 2007 is offered in two Client Access license (CAL) editions: Standard CAL and Enterprise CAL.

  • Office Communications Server Standard CAL
    Provides users access to instant messaging, presence, peer-to-peer voice and video, and file transfer capabilities.
  • Office Communications Server Enterprise CAL
    An additive CAL that requires that a Standard CAL is also purchased for each user or device. Provides user access to voice and call management, application sharing, and multi-party Web conferencing.
A CAL is required for each user or device (depending on the license) accessing the server. Either version of the CAL may be run against either version of the server.

Office Communications Server 2007 External Connector licenses

Office Communications Server 2007 is offered in two Client Access license (CAL) editions: Standard CAL and Enterprise CAL.

  • Office Communications Server Standard External Connector
    Provides the rights associated with the Office Communications Server Standard CAL for external users. With an Office Communications Server Standard External Connector license you can extend Office Communications Server Standard CAL functionality to external users.
  • Office Communications Server Enterprise External Connector
    An additive license and requires that a Standard External Connector is also purchased for each server that is accessed by external users. With an Office Communications Server Enterprise External Connector license, you can extend Office Communications Server Enterprise CAL functionality to external users.
