Other Prerequisites for Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Best Practices Analyzer Tool

In addition to running the Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Best Practices Analyzer Tool with an account that has the required permissions on Active Directory Domain Services, an account that has the required permissions on the Office Communications Servers, and an account that has the required permissions on the Exchange Server 2007 Unified Messaging servers, your system must meet the following requirements.

ShowSystem requirements

The computer on which you install the Office Communications Server 2007 Best Practices Analyzer Tool must have the following software.

For Office Communications Server 2007:

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0
  • Office Communications Server 2007 Administrative Tools

For Office Communications Server 2007 R2:

  • .NET Framework 3.5
  • Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Administrative Tools

Other computers in your deployment must meet the following requirements:

  • In a pool of servers running Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Enterprise Edition (known as an Enterprise pool), the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Administrative Tools must be installed on the Back-End Database server for the pool.

 Note   The Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Administrative Tools are required to collect data about the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Enterprise pool.

  • In an Office Communications Server 2007 Enterprise pool, the Office Communications Server 2007 Administrative Tools must be installed on the Back-End Database server for the pool.

 Note   The Office Communications Server 2007 Administrative Tools are required to collect data about the Office Communications Server 2007 Enterprise pool.

  • In a pool of servers running Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 with Service Pack 1 (SP1) Enterprise Edition, the Live Communications Server 2005 with SP1 Administrative Tools must be installed on the Back-End Database server for the pool.

 Note   The Live Communications Server 2005 SP1 Administrative Tools are required to collect data about the Live Communications Server 2005 SP1 Enterprise pool.

  • If the Best Practices Analyzer Tool is installed on a workgroup server, access to Active Directory Domain Services is not required.
  • The Remote Registry (RemoteRegistry) service must be running on all Active Directory Domain Services servers, Exchange Servers, and Office Communications Server 2007 or Office Communications Server 2007 R2 servers.
  • The Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) service (winmgmt) must be running on all Active Directory Domain Services servers, Exchange Servers, and Office Communications Server 2007 and Office Communications Server 2007 R2 servers.
  • The user who is logged on and running the Office Communications Server Best Practices Analyzer must have read/write access to the folder where the tool is installed.
  • If the server running Office Communications Server 2007 or Office Communications Server 2007 R2 has Windows Firewall running, an exception for remote access (inbound) to the WMI service (winmgmt) must be enabled.

ShowSupported Environments

The Office Communications Server 2007 Best Practices Analyzer Tool can be run in the following environments:

  • Live Communications Server 2005 with SP1 on Windows Server 2003

 Note   Because there is a difference between the implementations of the Live Communications Server 2005 with SP1 and Office Communications Server 2007 WMI class, limited data collection and analysis is performed on a Live Communications Server deployment.

  • Office Communications Server 2007 on Windows Server 2003 with SP1
  • Office Communications Server 2007 R2 on Windows Server 2003 with SP2 (64-bit), or Windows Server 2008 (64-bit)
