In the Preferences dialog box, you can make choices about how to track information in Microsoft Office Accounting 2008.
Open the dialog box
- On the Company menu, click Preferences.
- Select a tab , and then make your selections.
- When you are finished, click OK.
Use the tabs
The Preferences dialog box uses tabs to group choices.

Each tab includes important settings, such as:
- Company
Account numbers, classes, jobs, change log, forms, sales taxes, fiscal year, cash or accrual basis, and foreign currency
- *Customers
Account numbers, shipping terms, and finance changes
- *Vendors
Account numbers, 1099 categories, and inventory
- *Employees
Account numbers, timesheets, and payroll authority when an accountant has the company data file
- Online Sales
Enabling online sales, download start date, and online sales preferences
- System Accounts
Account selections
- General
Sound settings, message settings, online tracking log, and record name filing
