When you run Microsoft Office Accounting 2008 on the Windows Vista operating system, you will encounter a new security model designed to protect your computer from access by malicious users. As a result, some tasks require you to have administrator privileges to perform certain tasks. These tasks mostly involve managing users and their access to Office Accounting 2008 and managing the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition database that stores your company information.
Windows Vista includes features that make it more convenient to run with an account with lower privileges, as a typical user rather than as a Windows administrator. Whenever administrator privilege is required to perform a task, rather than requiring you to log off of a user account and log on as Windows administrator, the operating system prompts you for the credentials of an administrative account. This allows you to perform tasks such as installing, configuring, or updating applications under a user account.

Application administrator role
Accounting 2008 accommodates the Windows Vista security model by allowing you to assign the Owner role additional privileges as an application administrator. The application administrator can manage multiuser settings and perform database administrator tasks on the SQL Server instance installed with Office Accounting. The application administrator will only be prompted for Windows administrator account credentials when working with multiuser settings and changing the name of the SQL Server database instance.
Important We strongly recommend that you run under an account with low privileges and let Windows Vista prompt you for credentials, rather than running under an account with Windows administrator privileges. Note If you install Office Accounting, the account under which you are running is automatically designated the application administrator. If your computer comes with Office Accounting already installed, you will need to assign roles to yourself and other users.
