Add, edit, or delete a credit card/line of credit account

Every credit card/line of credit account appears in the Chart of Accounts, and every credit card/line of credit transaction is entered into its credit card/line of credit account register.

 Note   When you set up online banking, your account records are linked directly with your bank or other financial institution.

ShowAdd a credit card/line of credit account

  1. On the Company menu, click New Account.
  2. In the Select Account Type dialog box, under Balance Sheet Accounts, click Credit Card/Line of Credit.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Enter the information on the Credit Card/Line of Credit Account form.

 Note   The account number determines the account's position within its grouping in the Chart of Accounts. This field appears on the account form if you selected Use account numbers in the Preferences dialog box.

You can record the last four digits of your credit card number in the Credit card (4-digits) field. This field is not encrypted, so this information is not secure.

  1. Do one of the following:
    • On the toolbar, click Save and Close.
    • To save the new account and create another credit card/line of credit account, click Save and New.

ShowEdit a credit card/line of credit account

  1. Do one of the following:
    • On the Company menu, point to Company Lists, and then click Chart of Accounts.
    • On the Banking menu, point to Banking Lists, and then click Chart of Accounts.

 Note   Use the entry in the Type column to locate credit card/line of credit accounts.

  1. Right-click the credit card/line of credit account, and then click Open Selected Items.
  2. Enter the information on the Credit Card/Line of Credit form.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • On the toolbar, click Save and Close.
    • To save your changes and create another credit card/line of credit account, click Save and New.

ShowDelete or inactivate a credit card/line of credit account

If a credit card/line of credit account does not have an opening balance or transactions associated with it, you can delete it. You cannot delete an account where you have entered transactions, including the opening balance, but you can change its status to Inactive.

ShowDelete a credit card/line of credit account

  1. Do one of the following:
    • On the Company menu, point to Company Lists, and then click Chart of Accounts.
    • On the Banking menu, point to Banking Lists, and then click Chart of Accounts.

 Note   Use the entry in the Type column to locate credit card/line of credit accounts.

  1. Right-click the credit card/line of credit account, and then click Delete.
  2. To confirm, click Yes.

ShowMake a credit card/line of credit account inactive

An account with Inactive status does not appear in dialog boxes, forms, or wizard lists. When you change an account status to Inactive, you will no longer be able to select it from those lists, although you can still post entries to its account register, which you can find in the Chart of Account Inactive view.

  1. Do one of the following:
    • On the Company menu, point to Company Lists, and then click Chart of Accounts.
    • On the Banking menu, point to Banking Lists, and then click Chart of Accounts.

 Note   Use the entry in the Type column to locate credit card/line of credit accounts.

  1. Select the credit card/line of credit account.
  2. On the Edit menu, click Make Inactive.

 Note   To make an inactive account active, on the Edit menu, click Make Active.
