Review a file by using Reconversion

The feature or some of the options described in this Help topic are only available if support for Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, or Korean is enabled through Microsoft Office Language Settings.

You can correct character compounds while reviewing sentences that have already been confirmed. If you find a mistake in an existing document, you can reconvert the characters.

To use this feature, you must be using Microsoft IME 2000 or later, or another Input Method Editor (IME) (IME: A program that enters East Asian text (Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, or Korean) into programs by converting keystrokes into complex East Asian characters. The IME is treated as an alternate type of keyboard layout.) that supports the feature.

Place the insertion point anywhere in the word that has been converted incorrectly.
Right-click the word, and then click Reconvert on the shortcut menu (shortcut menu: A menu that shows a list of commands relevant to a particular item. To display a shortcut menu, right-click an item or press SHIFT+F10.).
In the list of conversion options, select the option you want.
Press ENTER to confirm the conversion.
Repeat steps 1 through 4 above to reconvert additional words.

Note To reconvert phrases consisting of multiple words or compounds, you need to select the entire target range for conversion before using the Reconvert command.

The following example applies to Japanese text.

The steps below show how to reconvert the incorrect words in the sentence kakukai kakukai shodantai sandou sandou ete ete waapusuruu toshite toshite toshite tou tou . kakukai kakukai is reconverted to kakukai kakukai , and the Hiragana tou tou is converted to Kanji tou tou .

Type the sentence from this Help topic into your document. Place the insertion point at the beginning or in the middle of the word , right-click the word, and then click Reconvert on the shortcut menu.
is automatically selected as the reconversion target, and a list of conversion options is displayed.
Click in the list of options.
Place the insertion point anywhere in , right-click the word, and then click Reconvert on the shortcut menu.
reverts to its unconfirmed state, and is displayed as the first conversion option.
Press ENTER to confirm the conversion.
Select , and then repeat steps 2 through 4 above to perform the reconversion.
