Tips for making a PivotTable list editable

Applies to
Microsoft Office Access 2003
Microsoft Access 2002

When you add a PivotTable list to a page in either Access or Microsoft Office FrontPageĀ® 2003, users should be able to edit detail data when the page is opened in a browser if the default settings on the Protection tab of the list's Commands and Options dialog box have not been changed.

If you cannot edit some or all of the detail fields in a PivotTable list, do one or more of the following:

  • Verify that the field you are trying to edit is not a read-only field.
  • Verify that the underlying table has a primary key.
  • Verify that your access permissions are set to ReadWrite instead of Share Deny None (the default). To verify or change permissions, do one of the following:
    • Repeat the steps to connect the PivotTable list. In the Advanced tab of the Data Link Properties dialog box, clear the Share Deny None check box, and select the ReadWrite check box.
    • Open the connection file associated with the PivotTable list in Notepad, and search for the string Mode=(value). Ensure that the value is Read|Write.
  • In Microsoft Internet Explorer, on the Security tab of the Internet Options dialog box, select the zone corresponding to the Web page with the PivotTable list, and then click Custom Level. Under the Miscellaneous category, verify that Access data sources across domains is set to either Enable or Prompt.

Finally, verify that the settings on the Protection tab of the PivotTable list's Commands and Options dialog box are set so that the editing of detail data is enabled.
