Specify IME behavior

You can set properties that control Input Method Editor (IME: A program that enters East Asian text (Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, or Korean) into programs by converting keystrokes into complex East Asian characters. The IME is treated as an alternate type of keyboard layout.) behavior for a field in a table or a control on a form. The IMEMode property applies to all East Asian languages, and the IMEHold and IMESentenceMode properties apply to Japanese only.

You can set IME properties for a text box, a list box, or a combo box.

  1. Open the form in Design view (Design view: A view that shows the design of these database objects: tables, queries, forms, reports, and macros. In Design view, you can create new database objects and modify the design of existing objects.).
  2. Select the control for which you want to set the IME mode, and then click Properties Button image on the Form Design toolbar.
  3. Set the IMEHold, IMEMode, or IMESentenceMode properties. For more information, click the applicable property box and press F1.

ShowSpecify IME behavior when entering data in a datasheet

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Keyboard tab.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • To specify that the IMEMode property is set to No Control when entering data in a datasheet, select the Datasheet IME control check box.
    • To specify that IME behavior is determined by the IMEMode property of the individual fields, clear the Datasheet IME control check box.
