Migrating from Microsoft Office Access 2003, Access 2002, or Access 2000
If you are using Microsoft Office Access 2003, Access 2002, or Access 2000, migrating to Access 2007 is easy. Access 2007 supports the Access 2002 - 2003 and Access 2000 .mdb file formats so, in most cases, you only need to install Access 2007 and open your Access 2002 - 2003 or Access 2000 databases — and you can then use those as you would use an Access 2007 database. However, Access 2007 includes many new and useful features (such as attachments and multivalued fields) that require the new .accdb file format, so you should use the new file format whenever possible. If you continue to use the .mdb file format, you cannot take advantage of those new features.

Migrating from Access 97
When you open an Access 97 database in Access 2007, the Database Enhancement dialog box appears. To convert the database to the Access 2007 file format, click Yes. Access then creates a copy of the database in the .accdb format.
Note You cannot use the .accdb file format in earlier versions of Access.
If you click No in the Database Enhancement dialog box (that is, choose not to convert the database), you can still open your .mdb file format database. You can view objects and modify records by using Access 2007, but any design changes that you make will not be saved.

Migrating from Access 95
If you use an existing database in the Access 95 format (.mdb), you can import tables, queries, and macros from that database into an Office Access 2007 format (.accdb) database. You can also import forms and reports that do not employ Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) code.
To import forms and reports that contain VBA code (and also modules), first convert your Access 95 format database to the Access 2002 - 2003 file or Access 2000 format by using Microsoft Office Access 2003, Access 2002, or 2000, and then use Access 2007 to convert that file to the Access 2007 file format. Migrating from Access 2.0
If you use an existing database in the Access 2.0 format (.mdb), you can import tables, queries, and macros from that database into an Office Access 2007 format (.accdb) database.
To import forms, reports, or modules into Office Access 2007, you must first convert the database by using an earlier version of Access, then you open the database in Access 2007, and then you convert the database into the Access 2007 database format.
