Queries III: Use expressions and other criteria

Using a basic comparison operator in a query

The second course in this series explained how to use simple criteria in a text field. Here's a brief refresher on that process. The criteria in the picture retrieves data for products that cost more than $40.

Callout 1 Open your query in Design view.
Callout 2 Click the Criteria row of the field you want to use, enter the condition that you want the data to meet and press ENTER, or click another part of the design grid. You can use text, dates, and math functions, but remember that your criteria must match a value in your database. For example, some of your products must cost more than $40.
Callout 3 Test your changes. On the Design tab, in the Results group, click Run. Your results should equal or exceed the amount you set, such as products that cost $40 or more.

Next, we'll look at the types of criteria you can use in your queries.
