You've seen how easy it is to create a Search Folder. But what if you want to tweak it a bit? For example, what if you want to view unread e-mail messages, but only the ones in your Inbox? That's easy to do. With Search Folders, you are in control. You choose what to see (or not to see).
After a Search Folder has been created, you can go back and adjust its search criteria at any time. Here's how you would do this:
Right-click the Search Folder in the Navigation
Pane — in this case the Unread Mail folder.
Click Customize this Search Folder

Note that what you can customize about a default or predefined Search Folder may be limited. For example, with the default Unread Mail folder used in the example above, you can customize which subfolders are searched for unread mail, but you can't customize anything else about it.
If you know exactly what you want already, a custom Search Folder offers you the most control over the search criteria. For example, if you want to look for all messages you received last week that you haven't yet responded to, you could create a custom Search Folder to do this. We'll show you how to do this in the practice, which is coming up next.
