Let's start Excel
To use Excel, look for the Excel icon in the Start menu and click it.
Start Excel using the following steps.
- Display the Start menu.
Click the
(Start button).
- Look for the Excel icon.
Point to All Programs. Next, point to Microsoft Office, and then click Microsoft Office Excel 2010.
- The startup screen appears, and Excel starts.

Tip: The first time you start Excel

The first time you start Excel, the Microsoft Office Activation Wizard might appear.
In this case, select either [I want to activate the software over the Internet. (recommended)] or [I want to activate the software telephone.], click [Next], and then follow the instruction on the screen.
Note If you are using a boxed edition, the screen and its operation might be different.

Let's quit Excel
Let's quit Excel using the following steps.
- Click the
button in the upper right of the Excel window.
Click the
button.
- Excel quits.

Tip: What do I do if the "Do you want to save the changes you made to Book1" message is displayed?

If you make any change, no matter how small, to a worksheet and click the button, a message box similar to the following one appears.
To save the changes, click Save. To quit without saving the changes, click Don’t Save. If you clicked the button by mistake, click Cancel.

Tip: What if I click the button by mistake?
|
|
If you click the button, which is near the button by mistake, the Excel window disappears, but Excel does not quit.
To display the Excel window again, click the appropriate Excel file name in the taskbar.
