Select shapes

ShowSelect one shape

Click the Pointer tool Button image. Move the pointer over a shape. When the pointer changes to a four-headed arrow White pointer with 4-headed arrow, click to select the shape.

Selection handles Selection handle image appear on the shape.

ShowSelect multiple shapes

Do one of the following:

Click a shape, press SHIFT and click to select other shapes one at a time. Click the Pointer tool Button image (set to Area Select or Lasso Select), and then drag a selection net around all the shapes that you want to select. Click the arrow on the Pointer tool and click Multiple Select. (The Pointer tool Button image changes to indicate Multple Select mode.) Click a shape, and then click to select other shapes one at a time.

 Note   The primary (primary selection: The first selected shape in a multiple selection, indicated on the drawing page by a thick magenta outline. When a multiple selection is combined, the formatting of the primary selection is applied to the new shape.) shape has a thick magenta outline, and all other shapes have thin magenta outlines.

ShowSelect all the shapes on a page

On the Edit menu, click Select All.

ShowSelect all of a particular kind of object

On the Edit menu, click Select by Type, and then check the type of object that you want to select, such as shapes, groups, or guides.

ShowCancel a selection

Do one of the following:

To cancel the entire selection, click a blank area on your drawing, or press ESC. To cancel the selection of one shape when several are selected, press SHIFT and click the shape.
