How to publish Web sites with FTP

Folder List, File menu, Properties command

How to get the size of your site.

Depending on the kind of hosting package you purchased, you probably have a limit of how much disk space you can occupy on the Web server.

For example, if you were given a disk space limit of 25 MB, this means the total size of your site (including HTML files, images, folders—everything) cannot exceed 25 MB. If you exceeded your limit, you'd probably get an error message while publishing.

To find the size of your site, you would first make sure that all files and folders were visible in the Folder List. (We'll explain how to do that in the practice session that's coming up.) Then, you'd do the following:

Callout 1 Click the topmost folder in the Folder List.
Callout 2 Click the File menu.
Callout 3 Select Properties.

If you find that the size is too big, you'll need to lighten it up. You can do this by deleting files, or by optimizing your multimedia files and images.
