A page with an HTML table for the layout.
The layout of a Web page is the skeletal structure of the page. It lets you arrange and position text and graphics in a grid-like fashion. A popular way to create a layout is to use an HTML table.
If you want, you can design your layout from scratch by drawing the table and cells. This a very rewarding task, but doing it from scratch takes time. (In fact, there are four other training courses on Microsoft Office Online that teach this process.) But if you want the quick and easy way, you can choose a ready-made layout from the Layout Tables and Cells task pane, as shown in the illustration. We'll show you how to do this in the practice session coming up.
Note There are other ways to create a layout. For example, you can use frames or layers. For more information on these topics, see the Additional Information section in the Quick Reference Card at the end of this course.
