You can send documents with restricted permission to people who are not using Word 2003. When they open the restricted document, they see a Web page where they can download the Rights Management Add-on for Internet Explorer or add-ins for other browsers that support restricted permission content. Then they can open the protected document in their browser.
When you receive a document with restricted permission, you must verify your credentials before the document opens. Then click View my permission in the Shared Workspace task pane to see what you are allowed to do with the document.
Note If a document does not have IRM permissions specified and you send it as an attachment to an e-mail message that is IRM-protected, the document will inherit the IRM permissions that are associated with the e-mail message.
