Add multiple PivotDiagrams to a drawing

With multiple PivotDiagrams, you can either break down the same source data in multiple views within the same drawing or show different sets of data in the same drawing.

To show the same source data in multiple views, you copy and paste an existing PivotDiagram and then modify it to show the same data in different views. To show different sets of data, you create a new PivotDiagram that is connected to a different set of data.

For example, if you show sales data broken down by financial quarter and also by salesperson, you are presenting different views of the same source data about sales by using two versions of the same PivotDiagram. Conversely, if you show sales data broken down by quarter in one PivotDiagram, you may also want to show your company's overhead from a different data source to compare your income with your expenditures.

What do you want to do?

Create multiple views of the same source data in the same drawing

  1. In your drawing, right-click the top node of the PivotDiagram, and then click Copy.
  2. Right-click anywhere in the drawing and then click Paste.
  3. The following three shapes appear on the drawing page:

    • A data legend that contains information about the data source
    • A text box for the name of the PivotDiagram
    • The top node, which contains the imported data set
  4. Click the top node on the drawing page. In the PivotDiagram window, under Add Category, click the category (usually a column in your data source) by which you want to group your data.

Note    You may need to maximize the PivotDiagram window to see all of the features.

For more information about breaking down the nodes, see Create a PivotDiagram.

After you click Finish, the following three shapes appear on the drawing page:

    • A data legend that contains information about the data source
    • A text box for the name of the PivotDiagram
    • The top data node, which contains the imported data set
