It's useful to be able to spot the big messages.
Knowing individual message size can help you as you work to control the overall size of your mailbox.
It's also useful to be aware of size as you send mail. That way you won't unintentionally clog someone else's mailbox or try to send messages that are "unsendable" (for example, if your system administrator has set a limit on the size of a message that can be sent).
