Add resources to the enterprise resource pool

In Microsoft Office Project Professional 2007, you can add resources (resources: The people, equipment, and material that are used to complete tasks in a project.) to the list of enterprise resources (enterprise resources: Resources that are part of an organization's entire list of resources. Enterprise resources can be shared across projects.) by adding them individually to the enterprise resource pool or by using the Project Guide. Using the Project Guide enables you to import multiple resources from a project into the enterprise resource pool. Keep in mind that a resource needs to be added to your project before you can add the resource to the enterprise resource pool.

Note   You must have appropriate permissions to add resources to the enterprise resource pool.

What do you want to do?

Add individual resources to the enterprise resource pool

  1. On the Tools menu, point to Enterprise Options, and then click Open Enterprise Resource Pool.
  2. The Resource Center is displayed.

  3. To add a new resource to the enterprise resource pool, click New, and then click Resources.
  4. Specify the following items about the new resource:
  5. Your organization may require additional information about your resources. Under Resource Custom Fields, enter the information that your organization requires for each resource. This section won't appear if your organization has not defined custom resource fields.
  6. On the File menu, click Save.

Note   If you did not enter information in the required fields, or if you entered some fields incorrectly, you will be prompted to verify this information, and then to click Save again.

Add multiple resources to the enterprise resource pool by using the Project Guide

  1. On the Tools menu, point to Enterprise Options, and then click Import Resources to Enterprise.
  2. In the Open dialog box, select the project file (or other files, such as a Microsoft Office Excel 2007 spreadsheet) that contains the resources that you want to add to the enterprise resource pool.
  3. The Project Guide is displayed on the left.

  4. Follow the instructions in the Project Guide to add resources to the enterprise resource pool.

 Notes

  • As you use the Project Guide, you can enter information into any required enterprise fields that have not yet been completed.
  • If you customized fields within your project to help you define resource attributes, you can map these fields to enterprise custom fields on the Map custom fields page of the Project Guide.
  • You can select a Project plan from an earlier version of Project to add resources. This is useful if you are upgrading from Microsoft Project 2002 or Microsoft Office Project 2003.
  • If you want to add resources that already exist in a database or a list in Microsoft Office Excel, use the Import Wizard that appears when you open a file that is not a Microsoft Project Plan (MPP) or Microsoft Project Template (MPT) file, or when you click ODBC in the Open dialog box.
