The Areas Impacted field contains examples of areas that could be affected by a proposal, as selected in the Areas Impacted lookup table, which comes with Microsoft Project Server and can be modified to reflect an organization’s specific areas. This field is controlled by the workflow (A workflow represents the structured governance process for projects to proceed through lifecycle phases. An organization's project workflow can be modeled and controlled through the demand management features in Project Web Access.).
Data Type Enumerated (enumerated field: A type of field whose content is selected from a list of predefined choices. For example, in the Accrue At field you can select the way resource costs are accrued from a list that includes Start, Prorated, and End.)
Entry Type Entered (entered field: A field in which you may type or edit information. This is in contrast with a calculated field, in which Project calculates and enters information.)
Best Uses Add the Areas Impacted field to a proposal when you want to specify the departments or other areas that could be involved or otherwise affected by this project if it is approved. This provides useful information for the Portfolio Analysis process.
Example You are proposing a project to develop a Web-based customer service solution. You add the Areas Impacted field to the proposal. In the lookup table that appears, you select Finance, Marketing, and Product Development.
Remarks This field is an example of a custom enumerated field provided with Microsoft Project Server. You can view a list of available custom fields, and also create your own. In the left pane of Microsoft Project Web Access, click Server Settings. Under Enterprise Data, click Enterprise Custom Fields and Lookup Tables.
