Save a PowerPoint 97 or 2000 presentation as a slide show

Did you know that you can save a Microsoft PowerPoint® presentation so that it automatically opens as a slide show? When you double-click a presentation that is in PowerPoint Show format (.pps extension), the slide show starts immediately - you don't have to fuss with extra commands or buttons.

Save a presentation to always open as a slide show

  1. Open the presentation you want to save as a slide show.
  2. On the File menu, click Save As.
  3. Locate the folder where you want to save the slide show.
  4. In the File name box, type a name for the slide show.
  5. In the Save as type list, click PowerPoint Show.
  6. Click Save.

When you want to run the slide show, in Windows® Explorer, locate and open the folder where you saved the slide show - for example, C:\My Documents - and then double-click it.

The slide shows runs as normal. You can use all the usual methods for moving through the slide show - for example, click to advance to the next slide and right-click to bring up a menu of commonly-used slide show commands.

Note  You can still edit a presentation that is saved as a slide show. To do this, start PowerPoint, and then open the presentation as you normally would.

For more information about the different ways to start a slide show, type start a slide show in the Office Assistant or on the Answer Wizard tab in the PowerPoint Help window, and then click Search.
