Use Mouse-Over Action Settings in PowerPoint 97/2000

Use mouse-over action settings - highlights and sounds - in PowerPoint® 97/2000 to show that an object is a hyperlink. Text hyperlinks are made obvious by an underline, but object hyperlinks, such as pictures and shapes, might need special emphasis. For example, when you apply a mouse-over highlight to an object, it flashes briefly and changes color when you point to it, indicating that it's a link.

To apply mouse-over action settings

You can apply action settings such as sounds to text hyperlinks, but the hyperlink must be a type of object - such as a drawing object, WordArt object, or picture - to also display a highlight.

  1. Select the object hyperlink that you want to apply settings to.
  2. On the Slide Show menu, click Action Settings, and then click the Mouse Over tab.
  3. To apply a highlight to the object, select the Highlight when mouse over check box.
  4. To apply a sound to the object, select the Play sound check box, and then select a sound.
  5. Click OK.

Note  In PowerPoint 97, to apply a mouse-over highlight to an object, you must first apply a sound.

To see the action settings
  1. To preview how the action settings will appear in the slide show, click the Slide Show button at the lower left of the PowerPoint window.
  2. Point to the object to see the highlight and hear the sound.
