Using line item details

Line item details are rows that you add to a single cell, for the purpose of specifying detailed information for a single line item in an assignment matrix. For example, “Salaried employee training” and “Hourly employee training” might be line item details for a single “Training” line item. The values of the line item details always add up to the value in the parent line item.

When an administrator enables the Line Item Details property, you can add line item details to any cell in a PerformancePoint Add-in for Excel assignment matrix, or edit line item details that were added previously. In addition, if you add data to the detail lines in a cell, you can submit the values that you entered when you submit the assignment.

Typically, an administrator enables the Line Item Details property for an assignment when detailed information is not known at design time. For example, at design time, a Modeler might enable Line Item Details for an aggregate budget line item such as "Travel," and specify a total budget amount for the line item. Later, the Modeler or another business user can add detail for this line item, such as “Conferences,” “Promotional Events,” and “Manufacturer Visits.”

When a user enters data values for the detailed line items, PerformancePoint Add-in for Excel automatically updates all other values in the assignment matrix.
