Some features of Microsoft Exchange Server e-mail accounts depend on the version of Exchange Server that you connect to. An example is the Outlook Anywhere feature, which requires at Exchange Server 2003 or later.
To determine the version of Exchange Server that you are connecting to, do the following:
- With Outlook running, press and hold CTRL
while you right-click the Outlook icon in the notification area, at the far right of the taskbar.

- Click Connection Status.
- Move the horizontal slider all the way to the right.
- Under the column heading
Version, note the number.
- Compare the number with those in the table below.
