Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 lets you mark notes with note flags so that you can easily come back to information that you want to act on, remember, study, or send to others. You can flag notes on various pages in various sections of your notebook and then view them all in a single list in the Note Flags Summary task pane.

The Note Flags Summary task pane displays a list of notes that you have flagged.
Note flags in the task pane are linked to the note flags on pages. You can check off To Do items to indicate completion.
OneNote comes with five predefined note flags, and you can customize all available note flags by creating your own labels for them and choosing their formatting style with icons and colors.
Note flag icons
When you apply a note flag that includes an icon, such as a check box or a shape (a star, question mark, flag, or other symbol), the icon appears next to the paragraph it is applied to.
When you apply a note flag that has a specific font color or highlighting style, the text of the paragraph is formatted according to the characteristics of the note flag. The formatting is removed when you remove the note flag.
Of the many icons available for note flags, check boxes are unique in that they let you check off items as you complete the activities associated with them.
Tips
- Working with note flags in OneNote is even easier with the Note Flags toolbar displayed. On the View menu, point to Toolbars, and then click Note Flags.
- You can use up to nine shortcut keys (CTRL+1 through CTRL+9) to apply note flags quickly. Use the arrow buttons in the Customize My Note Flags task pane to associate keyboard shortcuts with note flags that you use most often. You can also quickly remove note flags from a paragraph by pressing CTRL+0.
