The notes that you take in Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 are stored in .one files in the My Notebook folder, which is located in the My Documents folder on your computer. If your notes include audio or video recordings, they will be stored as .wma files and .wmv files, respectively. Each .one or .wma file corresponds to a section in your notebook. You can also create new folders in your My Notebook folder for organizing sections in your notebook into folders.
Note Some of the features or functionality described in this topic are available only if you have installed Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 Service Pack 1. To learn more about the service pack and how to download it, see Service pack features in OneNote 2003.
The My Notebook folder contains several default folders, including a Notes E-mailed to Me and Other Notes I've Seen folder. The Notes E-mailed to Me folder is created the first time you receive a OneNote file sent in an e-mail message and open the file from within that message. The Other Notes I’ve Seen folder is created by OneNote when you open a OneNote file from a location other than your My Notebook folder, such as a shared folder on another computer or a network.
The Notes E-mailed to Me folder contains any .one files that have been sent to you as an e-mail message attachment. The Other Notes I've Seen folder contain shortcuts to any .one files you have edited that are not part of your My Notebook folder.
The tabs across the top of the document window in OneNote represent the sections and folders that are currently open. Tabs that represent folders display a folder icon to differentiate them from section tabs. When you have too many folders to fit across the top of the document window, scroll buttons appear so that you can scroll to the next tab.

Tabs across the top of the document window indicate sections and folders that are currently open.
You can rename any of the default tabs that come with OneNote, and you can create new sections and folders as you need them. You can also move sections so that they appear after another section or first in any folder in your notebook.
