The pages in each section of your Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 notebook are where you take notes. Pages are represented by page tabs along the right side of the document window. Each page is made up of a page header and the main note-taking area of the page.
Pages can contain subpages. Subpages are additional pages with smaller tabs than the primary pages. By adding several subpages to a page, you can create groups of pages, enabling you to further organize your notes.
Note Some of the features or functionality described in this topic are available only if you have installed Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 Service Pack 1. To learn more about the service pack and how to download it, see Service pack features in OneNote 2003.
Page headers
A page header is the nonscrolling region at the top of each page, which makes it useful for notes that you want visible at all times, without having to scroll to a particular spot on the page. For example, the page header is a good place to write down action items when you take notes during a meeting.
Tip
You can click or drag the bottom edge of the page header to resize it. You can also show or hide the page header by clicking Page Header on the View menu. When you create a new page, the date and time are automatically placed in the page header. You can place content anywhere in the page header, just as you can in the main note-taking area of the page. The page header also contains the title of the page.

The page header includes a title area, and the date and time that you created the page.
The last two page tabs are for adding new pages to a section.
You can type a title directly in the title area of the page header. If you leave the title area blank and begin taking notes in the main note-taking area, the first line of your notes will automatically be the title of the page. The title of each page is displayed on its corresponding page tab.
Page groups
When you add a subpage to your notes, OneNote creates a new page immediately following the current page. This subpage has the same title as the current page. When you insert subpages under a page in your notebook, that page and its subpages form a group of pages.
When pages are grouped, you can easily select them as a single unit— for example, if you want to copy or move them, or send them in an e-mail message. Adding subpages is also a useful way to organize your notes.
Tip
To select a group of pages, double-click the page tab of one of the pages or subpages in the group.
