Sign up for Office Live Workspace

You can sign up for Microsoft Office Live Workspace beta on the Office Live Workspace sign-up page. You will be asked to provide an existing e-mail address that you will use to sign in to Office Live Workspace each time you want to use it. This will be the primary e-mail address for your account. Office Live Workspace will send any communications to that e-mail address, including notifications about the workspaces and documents that are shared with you.

What do you want to do?

Sign up for Office Live Workspace

To sign up for Office Live Workspace:

  1. On the Office Live Workspace sign-up page, click Get Started Now.
  2. In the Type Your E-mail Address box, type an e-mail address that you already own, and then click Next.

      Notes

    • You can use an e-mail address that you use for other Microsoft services, such as Windows Live Hotmail or Windows Live Messenger, or you can use any existing e-mail address that you own.
    • If you signed up for an Office Live Workspace account using an e-mail address that is not associated with an e-mail Inbox, see Sign up using an e-mail address that is not associated with an e-mail Inbox later in this article.
    • If you use an e-mail address from a reserved domain (such as verizon.net or orange.fr), you may be prompted to choose a different e-mail address or to contact your e-mail provider. You can use an e-mail address from a reserved domain, but you must first contact the e-mail provider's customer support department for their permission and assistance. For example, if you have an e-mail account with orange.fr, you can contact the orange.fr customer service department for help with this issue. If you prefer, you can create a free Web e-mail account and then use that new e-mail address to sign up for Office Live Workspace.

If you type an e-mail address that you already use for other Microsoft services, you are prompted to type the password that is associated with that e-mail address in the Type Your Password box. Then click Sign in.

If you type an e-mail address that you have not used for other Microsoft services, the Create Your Account page appears.

    To create an account:

    1. Type a password that contains 6 to 16 characters, and then retype the password to confirm it.

Note   If you receive a message that your e-mail address is already in use, you may have used this e-mail address to sign up for another Microsoft online service, such as Windows Live Messenger or Windows Live Hotmail. If you forget the password that is associated with your e-mail address, in the Type Your Password box, click Forgot your password? and follow the instructions to reset your password.

    2. Type your first and last names.

Note   The names that you type are used as the display name that appears when you send e-mail messages inviting others to share documents or workspaces with you.

    3. Select the country or region where you live.
    4. Select a secret question, and then type your secret answer using a minimum of five characters.

Note   Providing a secret question and answer is a protective measure to prevent other users from accessing your account or changing your password without your permission. Office Live Workspace uses your secret answer to verify your identity if you forget your password.

    5. Type the eight numbers and letters that you see in the Picture box. This requirement helps Office Live Workspace confirm that a person and not an automated program is trying to sign up for an account. It prevents automated programs from misusing our service by sending spam.
      • To see a new picture, click the refresh button Refresh picture icon.
      • To hear an audio recording of the characters, click the speaker button Speaker icon. The recording provides a different set of characters than those that appear in the Picture box. If, after you click the speaker button, you decide that you want to type the characters that you see in the picture instead, you must first click the refresh button to see a new picture. You can then type in the numbers and letters that appear.

Note   The characters that you type do not have to match the case of the characters shown in the Picture box. That is, if the picture shows a capital B, you can type a lowercase b.

    6. Click Finish.

Sign up using an e-mail address that is not associated with an e-mail inbox

If you signed up for an Office Live Workspace account using an e-mail address that is not associated with an e-mail inbox, you will not be able to activate your Office Live Workspace account. You must sign up again using an e-mail address that has an associated e-mail inbox. If you prefer, you can instead create a free Web e-mail account, and then use that new e-mail address to sign up for Office Live Workspace.

Verify my e-mail address after signing up

After you finish the sign-up process for Office Live Workspace, you may be asked to confirm that you are the owner of the e-mail address that you used to sign up. Additionally, if you change the e-mail address for the account you used to sign up, you may also be asked to confirm that you are the owner of the new e-mail address. You will receive a message from the Office Live Workspace team at the e-mail address that you used to create your account. Follow these steps to verify your e-mail address:

  1. Check your e-mail inbox for an e-mail message from Office Live Workspace.

      Notes

    • If the e-mail message does not appear in your inbox, look in your Junk Mail folder. The message may have been mistakenly delivered to the Junk Mail folder instead of the inbox.
    • If you cannot find the verification e-mail message, you can request another one. To request another verification e-mail message, follow the steps in Verify my e-mail address after changing my account e-mail address.

  2. When you find the e-mail message from Office Live Workspace, click the link in the first paragraph to confirm your e-mail address.
  3. After you click this link, you are asked to sign in to Office Live Workspace again.

To learn more about the e-mail address verification process, see Troubleshoot e-mail verification for Office Live Workspace.
