Let's start Excel

To use Excel, look for the Excel icon in the Start menu and click it.

Start Excel using the following steps.

  1. Display the Start menu.

    Click the Start button (Start button).

  2. Look for the Excel icon.

    Select All Programs

    Select Excel

    Point to All Programs. Next, point to Microsoft Office, and then click Microsoft Office Excel 2007.

  3. The startup screen appears, and Excel starts.

Tip: The first time you start Excel

Doctor The first time you start Excel, the Microsoft Software License Agreement might appear.

In this case, read the license agreement carefully and click the I Accept button.

 Note   If you are using a boxed edition, the screen and its operation might be different.

Let's quit Excel

Let's quit Excel using the following steps.

  1. Click the Close button in the upper right of the Excel window.

    Close

    Click the Close button button.

  2. Excel quits.

Tip: What do I do if the "Do you want to save the changes you made to Book1" message is displayed?

Doctor If you make any change, no matter how small, to a worksheet and click the Close button button, a message box similar to the following one appears.

To save the changes, click Yes. To quit without saving the changes, click No. If you clicked the Close button button by mistake, click Cancel.

Tip: What if I click the Minimize button button by mistake?

Doctor If you click the Minimize button button, which is near the Close button button by mistake, the Excel window disappears, but Excel does not quit.

Task bar

To display the Excel window again, click the appropriate Excel file name in the taskbar.
