Search for help, templates, and additional online content on Microsoft Office Online

If you are connected to the Internet (Internet: A worldwide network of thousands of smaller computer networks and millions of commercial, educational, government, and personal computers. The Internet is like an electronic city with virtual libraries, stores, art galleries, and so on.), you can search for up-to-date help, templates, training, or additional online content on Microsoft Office Online. Without an Internet connection, Help topics from your local hard disk are returned in the Search Results task pane, but additional online content is not available. The content returned is shown in order of relevance where the most likely answer to your question appears first.

  1. To locate templates, training, or additional online content, make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  2. At the top of the task pane (task pane: A window within an Office application that provides commonly used commands. Its location and small size allow you to use these commands while still working on your files.), click Home Button image.

If the task pane is not displayed, click Task Pane on the View menu.

  3. In the Search box, type the keywords for the help, templates, or other online content you want.

ShowTips

  • A very specific search with 2-7 words will return the most accurate results. For example, instead of typing templates, type resume for a pilot.
  • To narrow your search results in the Search Results task pane, select a scope in the Search scope drop-down list. For example, to search for templates only, click Templates in the Search scope drop-down list.
  • If you see a result in the Search Results task pane that is close to what you are looking for, you can click a category link for that result to get a list of similar results. For example, click the category link Help>Managing Files to return a list of articles with information about working with files.
