Add a formula to a one-variable data table
 

Formulas (formula: A sequence of values, cell references, names, functions, or operators in a cell that together produce a new value. A formula always begins with an equal sign (=).) used in a one-variable data table (data table: A range of cells that shows the results of substituting different values in one or more formulas. There are two types of data tables: one-input tables and two-input tables.) must refer to the same input cell (input cell: The cell in which each input value from a data table is substituted. Any cell on a worksheet can be the input cell. Although the input cell does not need to be part of the data table, the formulas in data tables must refer to the input cell.).

  1. Do one of the following:
    • If the data table is column-oriented, type the new formula in a blank cell to the right of an existing formula in the top row of the table.
    • If the data table is row-oriented, type the new formula in a blank cell below an existing formula in the first column of the table.

  2. Select the data table, including the column or row that contains the new formula.
  3. On the Data menu, click Table.
  4. Do one of the following:
