I added a service but I don't see it in my Search for list.
- In the Research Options dialog box, select the check box for the the service you want to turn on.
I'm searching on All Reference Books and I don't see the answers I want.
- All Reference Books is the default search scope. However, it does not search "all" services in the Search for list. All Reference Books refers to all services installed or available from your computer, not the Web. To search the Web for example, click the Search for list, and click another options such as MSN Search.
My list of recent searches are no longer available when I click the Back button in the Research task pane.
- The list of recent searches is cleared when you open the Research options dialog, and then click OK.
How do I stop the Can't find it? service from showing up in my list of research results?
- In the Research task pane, click Research options, and then under Other Services in the Research Options dialog, clear the Can't find it? check box.
I typed a URL in the Add Services dialog box, and I get an error message.
- The owner of the service you want to add is required to set up their service so that the Microsoft® Office System can add it to the Research task pane as a searchable item. Some programming is required. You can find the programmatic information you need in the Research SDK available on the Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) Web site.
I don't see Research on the Tools menu.
- If you are in Internet Explorer, go to the View menu, choose Explorer Bar, and then click Research.
- If you are in Microsoft® Office Outlook® 2003, Research is only available from the Tools menu in reading and writing modes. You can also press ALT and click to open the Research task pane.
I pressed ALT and click but it doesn't work.
- If you're in Microsoft® Office OneNote™, right-click and choose Look Up on the shortcut menu.
- If you're in Internet Explorer, the Research task pane must be open before you can press ALT and click to look up information.
- If you are working in another language, not all languages are supported in all products. For example, ALT and click, and auto-lookup are not supported in East Asian languages in Microsoft Office Outlook 2003.
Auto-look up isn't working.
- Auto-look up is only available in two products: Microsoft® Office Outlook® 2003 (Reading Mode only), and in Outlook 2003. Auto-look up is available when the Research task pane is open, and is not supported in all languages.
I've heard about research services such as Gale and Factiva, but when I open the Research task pane, I don't see them.
- Try to connect online first, and then open the pane.
I have the Research task pane open in more than one product and when I add or remove a service in one task pane, I don't see my changes in the other task panes.
- Close and then reopen the task pane(s) in the products where you don't see your updated services. If this doesn't solve the problem, close the product, reopen it, and then open the Research task pane.
How do I remove the Thesaurus and Translation services from the Research task pane?
- You cannot uninstall the Thesaurus and Translation by using the Research options dialog. Instead, go to Office Setup (Office Shared Features > Proofing Tools) and unistall it.
- To remove specific language pairs from view in the Search for list in the Research task pane, click Translation in the Search for list, click Translations options inside the Research task pane, and select the options you want.
Why can't I add a Microsoft® Office SharePoint™ Portal Server 2003 site to my list of Research services?
- To add a SharePoint Portal Server site, click Research options, Add Services, type http://your root directory/_vti_bin/search.asmx in the field provided, and then click Add.
