Conducting secondary market research is a key part of successful marketing. It's a means of gathering publicly available data that helps you make the right decisions throughout the marketing process. Fortunately, there's a vast amount of information online — but the challenge you face when conducting research on the Internet is having to sift through the mass of data that's out there. By using Microsoft Office 2003 research tools, you can quickly find relevant, first-rate information and then compile the research in one place that's easy for you and your coworkers to access.

Secondary market research can improve the quality and timeliness of business decision-making. The data you gather is useful for learning about your industry, your customers, and your competitors.

The MSN® Search page appears, and the phrase market research global construction is typed in the search box.

Secondary market research is information that is publicly available. The trick is finding it. One of the best places to search for market research information is the Internet. Unfortunately, because the Internet is so vast, you can waste a lot of time looking for information.

The Research task pane appears in Microsoft Office Word 2003, and the word microsoft is typed in the Search for box. The pointer clicks the arrow next to the drop-down list box that contains the list item All Reference Books and then clicks Thomson Gale Company Profiles. The search results appear on the right.

When I need to find information quickly, I use the Research task pane in Word 2003. This connects me to focused sources that offer relevant, high-quality information.

Sometimes I need to get customer and market information from the sales staff. To speed up this process, I post the Secondary Market Research Gathering form on the company intranet. Then the sales staff can fill out the form, and I can compile the research in one place.
