See more information about project closure

When you're ready to close out a project, it's important that you do it right. You'll need to review your team's performance and the project's financial performance. By using Microsoft Office Project Professional 2003 and Microsoft Office InfoPath™ 2003, you can gather information about lessons learned, project results, and even who should get extra recognition. InfoPath also works with Microsoft online templates to create a phase completion acceptance document, a lessons learned summary, and performance report. Now you can close the project and move on, knowing that everything is truly finished.

The demo opens with a title card displaying the text Prepare final project information.

By the time a major project wraps up, I'm almost ready to leave it behind and move on to my next project.

The next image shows a Microsoft Office Project document titled "Project Management Plan," showing a Gantt chart. The pointer clicks the plus sign in the Manage Project Close cell to expand the tree.

But before I can do that, I need to close it out properly by documenting how things went.

The next image shows a Microsoft Office InfoPath document, which contains the Postproject review section. In the Name field, the name of a project manager is typed. In the Project Role field, the words Network Engineer are typed. In the Project Name field, the words Building Renovation are typed.

I can use InfoPath 2003 to gather information from the contributors — information like lessons learned, project results, and even who they think should get extra recognition.

The next image shows the Gantt chart in Project. The Close the project records cell is selected. The next image shows a Microsoft Office Word 2003 document, which contains the section Project Lessons Learned. The next image shows a Microsoft Office Excel 2003 spreadsheet containing a worksheet with the section Project Performance Report.

I can also use a variety of templates to help with project-ending tasks like phase completion, lessons learned summaries, and performance reporting.

The next image shows an Excel spreadsheet containing a worksheet with the section Project Performance Metric.

When the old project is safely put to bed, I can start in on the next one — and give it my undivided attention.

The image of the Excel worksheet disappears. The text Microsoft Office appears with the Microsoft Office logo, and under them the URL http://www.office.microsoft.com appears.
