Methods for viewing task information

While one advantage of the add-in is that you can view your tasks along with other appointments, you can also choose to see Project Professional tasks only. This is helpful if you have a lot of tasks and want to view them in list format.

View Project task appointments only in your Outlook Calendar.

You can also choose from some 18 Project Web Access fields that become available in Outlook after you install the add-in. These fields include Actual Work Original, Remaining Work, and Tracking Mode.

The fields are available in all list views, and you can also view just the Active Project-Related Appointments (see Figure 15). It is recommended that you enter task information by using the Project Web Access tab and not through one or more of these custom fields.

Other views for reviewing and updating your tasks include Outlook Today and the standard viewing options available in Outlook, such as Day, Work Week, Week, and Month views.

Note that you can forward a task or invite attendees from the standard Actions menu. Recipients will be able to view the task and its details, but they will not be able to update it.

Outlook Web Access, devices, and offline usage

With Project Professional tasks now in Outlook, you have the ability to view your tasks in Microsoft Outlook Web Access (which requires Outlook Exchange), on devices, and offline.

In Outlook Web Access and on devices, you see only the Appointment tab, which will describe such basic details of your task as start time, end time, comments, and so on.

In the offline scenario, if your tracking mode is Hours of work done per day or per week (timesheet view), working offline is not possible because a connection to Project Server is required to generate the timesheet view.
