Using the Date Watch Wizard

Applies to
Microsoft Excel 97 and 2000

For download and other information, see Using Date Migration Tools 2.0.

This wizard runs in the background while you work. It suggests alternatives when you enter text dates that might cause problems in formulas and functions. In addition, it changes number formats to use four-digit years when you type dates with two-digit years. When you open a text file that contains dates with two-digit years, the wizard displays a warning message.

For more information about text date problems and how to correct them, see Using the Date Migration Wizard.

Run the Date Watch Wizard

  1. On the Tools menu, point to Date Migration, and then click Date Watch.
  2. In the Date Watch dialog box, set the options you want to monitor.

Note   After you enter a date for which the wizard changes the date format, you can no longer use the Undo button for your recent Excel changes. To prevent this, double-click Regional Settings in Control Panel, click the Date tab, and in the list for Short date style, select a style that has yyyy for the year.

Stop running the Date Watch Wizard

  1. On the Tools menu, point to Date Migration, and then click Date Watch.
  2. In the Date Watch dialog box, clear the Enable Date Watch check box.
