Outlook support for Lotus cc:Mail overview

Applies to
Microsoft Outlook® 97 and 98

The Microsoft Outlook® Support for Lotus cc:Mail add-ins enable you to use Outlook as your e-mail client with a cc:Mail post office. This page provides you with specific information about required updates to specific files to make cc:Mail work more smoothly with Outlook.

Vendor Independent Messaging update

Before adding the cc:Mail information service to your Outlook profile, you need to install the 32-bit version of Vendor Independent Messaging (VIM), available from Lotus support at IBM Corporation at the Lotus Support File Library . The file is named vdlw32.zip. If you have any problems with the VIM download or installation, please see Lotus Support File Library -- Index of /ftp/pub/comm/ccmail/adtools for more information.

Updating your Export.exe and ie.ri files:

For the Bulletin Board and Folder Import features to work properly, the Lotus cc:Mail file Export.exe must be in the path on your local system. The steps required to update to the latest version are different, depending on what version of cc:Mail Post Office you have and what version of export.exe you are currently using. If you have a DB6 post office, then you do not need to update your export.exe. If you are not a cc:Mail post office administrator, please coordinate with whoever has that role to update these files. In many large systems, the directories that these files need to be in are often write protected, and you will not be able to install the updated files without permission.

If you have a DB8 post office, then you may need to update export.exe and ie.ri. You can tell what version you are using by opening a DOS window and executing the version of export you have. Find the location of export.exe and ie.ri on your system (for example, drive:\Windows\System). Then you can run the export program by entering opening a DOS windows and typing drive:\Windows\System\export at the DOS prompt, and then pressing Enter. Export will display version information to the screen. Please write down the export version. At this time, export.exe might ask you for more information. You can just press the ENTER key each time the program asks you for more information until DOS returns you to the main prompt.

Export version is 8.0100 or higher   You already have the latest version of export as of this date and don't have to do anything else.

Export version is lower than 8.0100  You should update your export as follows: Download the file ie80100.zip, extract the files from it and follow the directions in the README file.

You may notice that there is a file ie80102.zip available for downloading at the same location. Because this is a higher number than ie80100.zip, you may think you should update to this version. You do not need this download because it updates only the cc:Mail import utility, which Outlook doesn't use. However, if there are versions higher than ie80100.zip, which update the export utility or ie.ri, then you should update to the highest such version. Contact your cc:Mail postoffice administrator for details.

Once you have the updated versions of the files, copy them to your Microsoft Windows® System folder (Windows 95) or System32 folder (Microsoft Windows NT 4.0). If the files aren't in the Ccadmin directory of your cc:Mail Post Office and you can't find them at Lotus Corporation's web, please contact Lotus cc:Mail support at IBM Corporation.
