You've probably reached this article through another article that contains sample data in an embedded workbook. Although you can work with (but not permanently change) the sample data in the embedded workbook, you may want to open the actual workbook itself if Excel is installed on your computer.
In the Excel program, you can see details that you can't quite see in the embedded workbook, and you can experiment even more with the sample data. For example, you’ll be able to see the underlying rules for conditional formatting, add sparklines, build array formulas, and add filtering and sorting.
The embedded information you see is from an Excel workbook that's stored in a SkyDrive folder on Microsoft's Live.com site, and it's hosted by Excel Web App – the Excel experience for web browsers.
Click the green Excel icon on the bottom bar of the Excel Web App to download the embedded workbook.

Download the workbook to your computer
- On the black bar, in the lower right corner of the embedded workbook, click the Excel icon. This starts the file download.
- When you're prompted, save the workbook to your computer. The download message you'll see may look like this, depending on the operating system of your computer (Windows or Mac OS).
- You can either open the workbook in Excel immediately, or save it to your computer and then open it later. If you choose to save the workbook, it's a good idea to use the Save As command to save to the folder of your choice instead of your computer's Download folder.
