Common errors to find and fix before you import

Before you start the import process, look for and fix problems in your Excel data. The picture shows some typical issues:

Callout 1 Add headings to all columns, because they'll make your data easier to use in Access. You'll see why in a moment.
Callout 2 Remove any unwanted or blank rows or columns from the worksheet. You can't skip or filter rows during the import operation.
Callout 3 Fix any error values, such as #NUM or #DIV.
Callout 4 Make sure each column contains a single type of data. The picture shows a mix of dates and sales figures. If you import that mix of numbers and dates, Access may convert your data to seemingly random numbers, and you'll have to repeat the import.

Doing some work at this stage can help the import process succeed, and result in cleaner data in Access.
