Make text superscript or subscript

Important notice for users of Office 2003    To continue receiving security updates for Office, make sure you're running Office 2003 Service Pack 3 (SP3). The support for Office 2003 ends April 8, 2014. If you’re running Office 2003 after support ends, to receive all important security updates for Office, you need to upgrade to a later version such as Office 365 or Office 2013.   1. Select the text that you want to format as superscript (superscript: Describes text that is slightly higher than other text on a line, such as a footnote reference mark.) or subscript (subscript: Describes text that is slightly lower than other text on a line. Subscripts are often used in scientific formulas.).
  2. On the Format menu, click Font, and then click the Font tab.
  3. Select the Superscript or Subscript check box.

Keyboard shortcuts

  • Superscript: Press CTRL+SHIFT+=
  • Subscript: Press CTRL+=
