Audio course: So that's how! Working with really big worksheets

Watch Window in worksheet

Use the Watch Window toolbar to see the results of a formula in one location in a worksheet when you change the value in a cell in another location.
Callout 1 The cell reference of the cell that will be changed, cell E617, can be seen in the Name Box.
Callout 2 The formula result can be watched in the Watch Window toolbar, under Value.

By using the Watch Window toolbar, you can make a change in one cell and see how the change affects a formula in another cell — even if that cell is located far from where you're working. The Watch Window toolbar lets you keep watch on two (or more) places at once.

Right-click a formula cell, and then click Add Watch on the shortcut menu. The formula is added to the Watch Window toolbar. Then you can see the results of any changes that impact the formula result, no matter how far apart the formula is from the cell you are working in. You can also double-click the items in the Watch Window toolbar to navigate to those cells.

In the picture, you can watch the value of the formula in cell Y617, which is 6,324. The value is the discounted price based on the quantity purchased, which is 30 and which is listed in cell E617. A change is about to be made in cell E617, which will change the value in cell Y617. By using the Watch Window toolbar, we do not have to move from cell E617 to Y617 to see the result of the change.

To add another formula to the Watch Window toolbar, click Add Watch either at the top left of the Watch Window toolbar or on the shortcut menu after right-clicking a formula in the worksheet. To delete a formula from the window, click Delete Watch.
