Printing II: Work with color commands

Pure Black and White command and slide preview

Callout 1 When you choose Pure Black and White:
Callout 2 The background previews and prints as white.
Callout 3 Shapes preview and print with any fill color as white.
Callout 4 The picture file previews and prints in grayscale.

Whatever kind of printer is your default printer, you can select Pure Black and White as your color command. Slides print and preview only in black and white — well, almost only. There are some exceptions, listed below. This command uses less ink than any other command does.

The Pure Black and White command prints slide elements mostly in black and white, with a few grays, as follows:

Slide element How it prints
Background White
Text shadows White
Embossing White
Color and pattern fills White
Text Black
Lines Black
Frames Black
Object shadows Black
Bitmaps, other picture files Grayscale
Clip art Grayscale
Charts Grayscale

Printing in Word     Using PowerPoint 2003 or PowerPoint 2002, you cannot print the presentation in Word with the Pure Black and White color setting; the slides will print in grayscale on a black and white printer. To avoid that limitation, see instructions in the Quick Reference Card.
